BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS
The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE) is Canada's largest HIV/AIDS research and treatment facility. It was founded in 1992 as a partnership between Providence Health Care, the University of British Columbia, and the provincial Ministry of Health. The BC-CfE strives to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV/AIDS through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research. Since its establishment in 1992, the BC-CfE has grown to become a world leader in cutting-edge clinical, laboratory, and epidemiological HIV/AIDS research. Its internationally recognized team of inter-disciplinary professionals is unique in North America for integrating treatment, education, research, and the procurement and distribution of life-saving antiretroviral medications. This innovative structure enables the translation of research findings directly into clinical ?best practice? through the provincial HIV/AIDS Therapeutic Guidelines, which guide physicians in the treatment of HIV. Functioning primarily as a research institution the BC-CfE works closely with the Immunodeficiency Clinic at St. Paul's Hospital to facilitate the integration of research and patient care.
