The Fyrefly Institute for Gender and Sexual Diversity (previously iSMSS) is a non-profit organization and research institute housed in the Faculty of Education. We provide educational programs and services to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies, which include:

  • fYrefly in Schools (peer-to-peer education, staff / students K -12; professional development)
  • The CHEW Project (outreach centre; health education and support for youth facing barriers)
  • Camp fYrefly (summer camp for 2SLGBTQ+ youth ages 14-24)
  • Alberta GSA Network (support for students and teachers to start, strengthen, and sustain GSAs)
  • The Family Resilience Project (mental health support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and families)

We work in partnership with various local Edmonton organizations such as The Pride Centre, LGBTQ+ Wellness Centre, and altView. Together we're able to provide direct services, mental health support, programming, volunteer opportunities, information, and resources to the 2SLGBTQ+ community. We'd love to hear from you!
