HIM on Davie Health Centre
Health Initiative for Men (HIM) is a community based gay men's health promotion organization in Vancouver BC. HIM is dedicated to a vision of health and well-being that encompasses physical, mental, spiritual, and social aspects of gay men's lives. HIM volunteers and staff deliver community education, HIV and STI testing, peer support, workshops and social activities both online and face to face.
The HIM Sexual Health Centres are staffed by Registered Nurses from our partners at the BC Centre for Disease Control and the Vancouver Coastal Health STOP HIV team. Without their clinical expertise, our work would not be possible.
Outreach
Our outreach services are currently offered weekly on-street and at two drop-in locations in Vancouvers West End.
We support male sex workers and youth in their natural networks and venues. These may include strolls/tracks, internet cafes, and existing community organizations.
Netreach
HUSTLE @ HIM is now online engaging with men in the sex industry in the virtual networks they frequent and finding new ways of offering health promotion by establishing a presence and profiles on various social networking sites, dating sites and online classified services.
One:One Support
An important component to this program is individual crisis and day-to-day support/counselling. We can help you with community referrals, goal planning, addiction recovery, advocacy, personal accompaniment, and life skills coaching from a strength-based approach.
HUSTLE N Flow
HNF offers monthly Wednesday night access to a variety of community based resources led by trained volunteers at Boys R Us. Services include acupuncture and holistic healing as well as personal grooming sessions for male sex workers.
